My artistic home is Mexico—not the literal, geographical place but the product of my imagination. I believe I can consider Mexico another kind of home because it was handed down to me by my family, which, somewhere back down the line, came from there to the United States. The imagery of Mexico is exotic, but also comforting, and drawing on these images of my other culture gives me the feeling of having a set of deep roots. But in my work I am trying to make art not necessarily about being in Mexico but about being half Mexican.

Maren Muñoz is a recent graduate of the CU Boulder art department and will begin studying at the Pratt School of Art and Design in Brooklyn this fall.
