Taking a Trip With the People of the Babahoyo River

A personal message from the artist to CQ:

These photos were taken where I am from, in [the city] of Babahoyo [in the coastal province of Los Rios, Ecuador]. I took them last February during the floods that heavily beat the fields of Ecuador and all of Latin America... it made me see that man has only one destiny, his destruction and extinction.... The earth is punishing us and man does not understand...soon there will be nothing to eat or drink.

This exposition “Taking a trip with the people of the Babahoyo River” is about a normal yet fantastic weekend canoe ride through the flooded areas of the city of Babahoyo. There I could understand that these are the most dignified people alive, to see how they maintain their spirits, happiness and hopes without concern for their tragedy or “poverty.” They are simply aware that this is the earth’s punishment for all of the bad things that we have done.
